THE Met Office has issued fresh rain warnings – prompting over a hundred flood alerts as Brits brace for travel chaos.

Yellow rain warnings will cover south west England, south Wales and parts of the Midlands for much of today and tomorrow.

A warning will be in force until midnight for the West Country and south Wales.

Another warning will cover Leicestershire and Warwickshire from 2pm this afternoon until 3am tomorrow.

Forecasters said that heavy rain will make bus, train and car journeys longer.

A few homes and businesses could be flooded in the Midlands, and there could be power cuts.

The Environment Agency has issued 14 “expected” flood warnings and 109 “possible” flood alerts across England.

Floods are expected along the lower River Severn today, the agency said.

Inland rivers in the yellow warning zones will probably also burst their banks.

There is also a chance of flooding at high tide along the coast in northern England.

Today will be cloudy for much of the country, with some heavy rain in the west.

But some parts of the south east could be blessed with sunny spells.

The weather will turn drier and brighter tomorrow, staying mild for this time of year.

Forecasters said this weekend will see “bright and sunny spells” across much of the UK.

Most Brits will enjoy clear skies, mild conditions and even some warm sunshine.

Cloud and drizzle are expected to return to the south sometime next week – but northerners will still bask in fresh winter sun.
